I have Moved!...
Welcome to my new "Place
In The
Sun" (Pits) "Casa
OWD" Pronounced 'Owed' which stands for "Ohhhh
Whaddaa Dump" or.... as my my Yahoo alert said..... "Movin
on Down". Yes, for less than the cost of a new
Mercedes you too can have a Condo from Hell complete with 12 leaks in
the plumbing. Yes count-em.... 12 leaks! None were serious and
the Toilet was completely shot (now replaced with a new one) and there
was water damage to walls and cabinets. Much of the Electrical was
non-functioning, no heat or air-conditioning, and about half of the
Kitchen Cabinets were just plain missing. So, Why?, you ask,
would anybody buy such a place? In a word "Cheap".
I have moved from 3,600 sq ft to 1,200 sq ft and
now to 780 sq ft. Each time a little more has to go and life gets a
little simpler. I love to travel and do things. Since I am
semi-retired I need to cut the overhead costs to enjoy some of those
things. I am fully aware most people could not take on the remodel of
a fully degraded property, but I have both the skills and time to do
so. It would make no economic sense whatsoever to do this if you had
to pay outside contractors to do the work. And most importantly,
I actually enjoy taking a run-down property and restoring it. I take
great pride in the work I am able to do.
Summer employment this year is not looking
promising. I had my application in since last Nov. to work in Wyoming
but due to budget cuts and High Gas prices reservations are down 25%.
So I still have a few weeks to figure out what I want to do and will
wait and see if I get an offer. My 5 months in Alaska last summer
under contract to Princess Hotels was a great experience
I was hoping to repeat this year at a stateside location.
My Handyman work continues and I have reduced the
scope of what I will take on. Since I have no mortgage payment
now the urgency to generate an income has diminished. It still gives
me cause to get out of bed in the morning and hustle a little, but I
am more relaxed about the work now. As the Snowbirds will be leaving
soon so will my work.
Got out for a couple of days of Hiking and stayed
overnight with friends in central California but it was raining both
days and miserably cold! As we have warmer weather now, I would like
to go camping soon before the 'April Winds' on the Mojave begin.
Another trip to Indiana this summer sometime and
will try to get back up to Washington state as well. I have recently
been thinking about the 2 continents I have not yet visited Africa
& Antarctica. Just as I worked to get to all 50 states, it would
be nice to add all the continents. OR How about the US territories?
So far I can only count 2 of the 7. Almost all are in the South
Pacific and safe to visit but ghastly expensive....Hmnnnn......
